Phata poster Nikla 'REVIEW'

I am not much of a movie buff but I was waiting for this one eagerly. For one, being a Shahid kapoor admirer, I was part of the PPNH journey since its inception. Secondly, I really loved the songs & the funny trailers. But when the reviews started pouring in, I was in fact a little disappointed. People were bashing the entire crew & cast as if it was the worst movie ever made on the face of bollywood.

The movie takes some time to grow on you, may be because I had a preconceived notion after watching the promos. Its not a modern tale of a ‘mistaken cop’. Its a vintage story of an innocent boy from a small town who dreams of being an actor,  but circumstances cause him to be mistaken as a cop.

The beginning of the movie reminds me of an earlier time when the child mother bond was actually very strong, when there was innocence in people and their thoughts were simple. The first half is sweet, funny, smooth and the camera rolls through a series of connected events that keep u laughing and laughing. In the second half though, the plot gets messy and u wonder where it is all leading. But then in recent times, except for Hera Phery, all other comedies have ended in a similarly mad sequence of events. Agreed, it could have been cleaner, in fact, it could have been a different second half altogether. But then it was meant to be a mindless laugh riot.

Having said that, no one can take away from the performances, of all the veterans and especially Shahid. Someone who has excelled in serious roles all through his career, has taken a giant leap towards becoming a versatile actor. However easy it may seem, those action sequences were hard enough to crack. And he did it with as much ease n elan as he made us laugh n cry n dance n drool. All the songs were beautifully choreographed n shot... and everyone would agree with me on that count.

On a parting note, I must say, I went in for a mindless breezy comic relief from my mundane life and i got it in abundance. If you are hell bent  on comparison, lets set the parameters right. Lets compare it with 100 cr+ grossers in the same genre and then see where it stands (starring bigger stars, having adult content, raw plots n more). If you are weighing a ‘PPNH’ against a ‘Lunch box’, you would rather lean back on a kaminey or JWM.
